- In line with instructions from the Plant Manager shares plans with his team ensuring that there is full understanding of how production objectives will be fulfilled.
- Helps develop the Production Plan based on the Sales Plan, material availability and inventory requirements; ensures the plan meets stakeholder requirements with particular attention to customer commitments.
- Sets demanding targets based on the production plan and inspires his direct reports to exceed goals set – providing strong leadership, coaching and recognition
- Meets the production plan without unplanned shutdowns so that plant availability is optimized in a highly efficient manner; providing the right product mix, specification, volume and quality delivered according to schedule and logistics plans.
- Optimizes the capacities of the production line in an effective and efficient manner; avoiding waste or scrap and minimizing energy consumption.
- Demonstrates a clear comprehension of plant capability and is able to deliver an optimum in terms of output from material and energy inputs to the plant.
- Ensures that cement production is in line with the required specifications and is conscious of potential variations which could take place if production settings and operating procedures are not in full compliance with process standards. Meets the highest standards of quality.
- Works very closely with other managers at the Plant to ensure that full synergies from a close team working relationship is realized; this will be reflected by the manner in which production targets are met: on time; to spec and within cost limits.
- Assists as required when special projects are undertaken demonstrating high standards of professionalism in the execution of duties.
- Is regarded as the trusted advisor on all matters associate with Production – ensures that know-how is transferred within a ‘Learning Environment’ particularly to new staff.
- Is fully accountable for meeting best practice in terms environmental, health and safety standards. All incidents must be fully documented; the reporting procedures need to ensure that action is taken to avoid similar accidents. Assists in all EHS related investigations associated with production; has an outstanding record for corrective action taken.
- Is fully compliant with policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines as applied within the production Area and receives full sign off from internal audit without exceptions. In addition assists the plant manager in the development of production procedures and process
- Meets revenue, operational and (where applicable) capital expenditure targets in line with the business plan and annual budgets – takes corrective action against adverse production variances through pro-active contingency plans. overall target is to meet the production plan without un-planned waste or adverse cost variances.
- Is accountable for developing staff to the highest targets; empowering them and enabling them to deliver outstanding results; ensuring low staff turnover and high staff performance levels
- As a key department manager at the plant works closely with colleagues and seniors at head office, providing assistance as required.
- Undertakes special duties in line with directions from the plant manager; fully meets requirements specified
- Carry out the planning and scheduling of all production related processes including the gyratory, fractionated plant, rip rap plant and High Cal Plant.
- Oversee the utilization of manpower, mobile equipment, fixed assets and contractors.
- Provide the necessary guidance to the production supervisors to carry out the required production processes to meet customer needs.
- Coordinate the production requirements with the Maintenance Manager maximize the processing plant efficiencies and availability to meet the sales requirements and customer needs.
- Liaison with the maintenance manager so as to meet both maintenance and production requirements.
- Assist the technical manager with the capital expenditure program and evaluations and implementation of capital projects and purchase recommendations.
- Ensure the competence and development of department employees by initiating training, coaching, counseling or discipline procedures to respond to items identified in the performance reviews.
- Performs other duties related to plant operations as required or directed by technical manager.
