Job Summary:
A flexible and forward thinking engineer with experience of gas turbine engineering and a good understanding of the metallurgy of high-temperature materials is required to work as a repair / materials engineer, the appropriate person will be involved in developing repairs for a wide variety of components as well as assisting with failure investigation and process development on a wide range of materials and processes related to the gas turbine and energy industry as well as routine test/inspection and qualification work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish general work procedures and standards for repair and refurbishment of components managed by MPS-SA.
To know and implement the quality policy of MPS-SA.
To write and or revise Quality Management procedures when required.
To assist in the metallurgical examination of a wide variety of materials/processes according to standard procedures.
To make observations using available techniques –visual, macro photography, microscopy, mechanical testing according to standard procedures.
Woking to tight time schedules, to produce high quality reports.
To aid the repair engineering team in improvements to work flow, and developing techniques for novel materials and processes.
Work closely with the materials engineers and repair engineering team to qualify repair processes.
To maintain a flexible outlook and look for new opportunities to grow business for the lab and associated development facilities.
A good understanding of H & S issues concerning laboratory work, and ability to maintain high standards.
To work with minimum supervision and willing to work under pressure.
Ability to maintain high quality work in short time-scales.
A good understanding of steel/Ni super alloy metallurgy, especially during heat treatment and welding
Good knowledge of metallographic preparation techniques (especially steels, Ni based super-alloys and coatings).
A good understanding of typical mechanical testing (tensile, fatigue, stress rupture)
Flexible approach to enable problem solving, fast turn-around of novel specimens
Perform training and educate other engineers and supplier vendors.
