1) To provide leadership for the Department.
2) To ensure that the teachers follow the guidelines of the curriculum and promote the goals of the curriculum among students and parents.
3) To hold regular meetings with the teachers and to meet individual teachers to provide support and advice.
4) To update teachers with new teaching methods and strategies.
5) To Participate in the recruitment committee and prepare tests for new applicants.
6) To Mentor and monitor all teachers and assistants, work closely with them to help them settle in both professionally and personally.
7) To liaise with the Management Team and Head of Academics concerning the professional performance of teachers and to participate in the formal evaluation of members of the Department (ex: appraisal).
8) To carry class visits for teachers and carries out the necessary follow up at least once a month.
9) To monitor grading of the subject to obtain from each teacher a regular (at each Quarter) work summary, including :
a) Material covered
b) An estimate of the homework set
c) Weekly formative assessments (ex: portfolios, copybooks, quizzes, assignment etc...).
d) Summative assessments (e.g. quarter exams, presentation, etc.…)
e) Student individualized report
10) To discuss with the Head of Academics the students’ progress.
11) To work out an intervention plan for struggling students.
12) To liaise with the Head of Academics about the ordering of textbooks.
13) To inspire innovation and lead the on-going evaluation and development of the subject curriculum, ensuring that course syllabuses are satisfactorily completed.
14) To order equipment and supplies for the concerning subject within the budget, and to supervise the storage and maintenance of materials and books.
15) To sponsor, encourage and oversee field trips, the use of new technology in the classroom, to promote cross – curricular activities and ensure a student-centered learning environment.
16) To be responsible for full check of all materials posted by teachers on LMS (grades, uploading materials, announcements, H.W, assignments).
17) To be responsible for designing, checking and ensuring the integrity of all exams produced for the department (the 4 Quarterly Exams).
18) To assign the related project or research work needed to extend knowledge and enhance high order thinking skills.
