Leadership
• Be responsible for the leadership and management of the Special Learning Needs program
• Form and lead Program Support Groups, according to school policy and guidelines, to support the educational program for identified students
• Offer counselling services to students who experience social/emotional difficulties, stress or crisis either at school or in their home environment
Student Learning
• Be responsible for the learning of identified students
• Lead the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for identified students
Quality & Standards Compliance
• Comply with expectations and standards integral to any framework and/or accreditation requirements of the school
• Support the implementation of the professional development program and the School Improvement Plan
• Provide appropriate and timely support and training to relevant staff members
General Administration
• Establish and coordinate the service provision of a Support Services Group
• Source and create appropriate resources to facilitate the implementation of service delivery, including
• Materials necessary for each child’s IEP
• A teacher information and resource library
• A community resource/contact list
Pedagogy
• Lead the development of differentiation in approaches to teaching and curriculum content for identified students
Stakeholder Relationships
• Be a strong advocate for the Special Needs program in the school, ensuring a high positive profile
• Liaise and network with community groups, parent groups, universities and health professionals in order to facilitate access and make referrals to appropriate service providers
• Liaise and develop case management plans with stakeholders, including parents, teachers and teaching assistants, and such providers as appropriate.
